Examples of other texts and Language Register

This is a double page spread taken from vibe magazine. The magazine has used an interview as their choice of text throughout this double page spread. This allows the text to have a friendly and conversational style, which makes the magazine more informal. An informal style is more enjoyable for the reader as it creates a laid back feel to the magazine. It also allows the reader to see the artist talking first hand as a pose to the author writing about the artist. This will often be more appealing to the reader as they have brought the magazine to see the artists featuring inside, they have not purchased the magazine for the author. Therefore this type of discourse allows the reader to follow the text clearly and to read about the artist from a more personal perspective.

This double page spread is slightly different, it does not use an interview style but does include several quotes throughout from the artist and uses a recall of their conversation to create the text inside. This style also includes the authors opinions and thoughts on the artist and the discussions that they were having in the text. It also creates some humour by adding in things such as 'forget her sister' and does this to create a friendly and conversational tone that will be easier for the reader to relate to. It also adds in several facts throughout, things that the reader may not have known prior to reading the article which makes it slightly more formal, but the general tone throughout is quite informal still.

From looking at different texts I have decided that that I would like to use quite an informal language register. I would like to present the text on my double page spread in the form of an interview, as this gives the reader more personal insight into what the artist is saying. It also creates a friendly and conversational tone, something which will be more enjoyable for the readers of the magazine. I may do this by using an informal style of writing, and by including several language techniques such as colloquialisms and neologisms to create a laid back and approachable style of writing. This will also be relatable to the audience I am aiming my magazine at, which is a young artist on the Urban and R&B scene, so this language will be more familiar to them.
